I’m sick of the Afternoon Slump
It seems that every afternoon, right around 3 o’clock, I start to fade. Does this happen to you?
Of course it does. I just have to look around the office to confirm it. Everyone slumps at this time of the day. You are not alone.
My co-workers joke about needing to take a nap after lunch, but once the afternoon hits I really lose all my motivation.
I am tired and unfocused. I keep making excuses to walk around just so I people don’t hear a thud as I fall asleep at my desk.
This has gone on for years. I finally decided to do something about it.
I tried to get more sleep. That’s what everybody tells you you need to do. But who has time?
With all the time you spend at work and commute. Taking the kids to their 900 activities, running errands, making dinner.
God forbid you want to do something for yourself. That leaves little time for sleep.
Believe me, I try, but it seems that every time I make it to bed, my phone says that I need to wake up in 5 1/2 hours. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t give me enough sleep.
Some people suggest I take a nap. When exactly?
Not at home of course. I don’t have time for that. And I don’t exactly work at a place that encourages napping.
There are no sleeping pods or nap rooms at my company. I’m lucky if I can take a nap 5 times a year, let alone 5 times a week.
How can you fix this without increasing the hours of the day? There are lots of things you can try. Some betters than others.
What about Coffee?
There is coffee. I tried coffee. Every day in fact. As many cups as I could handle. As you can imagine, there is only so much coffee that you can drink, and by the time lunch rolls around, I am sick of it. I couldn’t drink another sip.
Even if I could, coffee only works so well, and I don’t like the jittery affects of drinking too much coffee. Having reached those limits, I decided to turn to a science based supplement.
Whenever I am thinking of putting something in my body I have to do my due diligence.
There are tons of energy products on the markets. None of those energy drinks are really healthy for your body. And the straight old fashioned caffeine pills have the same jittery effects as coffee.
